Loyalty is one of the most difficult of tournament goals to achieve. But once you have it, you have something your competition may never have – a full field of golfers. One way to achieve this is to say thank you (in a big way) to each golfer – regardless of your budget.
1. Golfers remember their welcoming gift or ‘goody bag, long after the tournament is over. All golfers will look forward to your tournament next year if you give a gift that is memorable and usable.
2. Biggest gift-giving mistake? Don’t skimp and give each golfer the highest quality item within your budget. Chose two to three quality items instead of a plastic bag filled with trinkets.
3. Show your true appreciation. Put some thought into the golfer gift and show each golfer how special they are. For the price of a golf shirt, provide everyone with a golf club engraved with the tournament name or with a sponsor’s logo.
4. Absolute hit? An absolute hit at our tournaments is a logo’d golf glove for each golfer. Some tournaments sell the logo’d glove and include entry into all tournament day contests – this is a great way to increase revenue!
5. Still popular after all these years? Logo’d anything is still at the top of the list with the most popular items being bags (coolers, shoe bags), shirts (nice ones), hats and balls.
6. Recognize your key sponsors the right way. If your tournament is fortunate enough to secure an underwriting sponsor for $5,000 - $20,000 do not put their logo on a plastic giveaway.
7. Tired of stuffing? Why not make the bag itself - the 'goody bag'? Give golfers something they can use on and off the course.
Thank golfers the right way and they will be back next year.
